President’s Letter — October 2005

Fellow UU’ers

Well, we’ve done it, we started another church year and things are moving along at a frantic pace. Committees are meeting, the lunchtime feeding program is cooking, RE is educating, Jim is preaching and the Board is boarding (or something like that). It is fascinating how we take the summer off and come back in September and it seems like we just pick up where we left off. I hope that some things we can keep the same and some things we can change this year.

Some things to keep the same:

  • Continue the commitment to this community
  • Continue to be a welcoming congregation for new people
  • Continue to develop our ministry within our Fellowship

Some things to change:

  • Make chairing a committee less of a hardship and more rewarding
  • Get more involvement from a greater number of people
  • Provide more leadership help for our Lay leaders.
  • Make committee work, less work and more of a way for us to develop our relationships.
  • Get our finances in better shape by enhancing participation on the Stewardship committee
  • Enrich our Ministry by staffing our Committee on Ministry.

A lot to do and only nine months to do it in. Jim had set some very high goals in his letter last month and I know some people were a bit overwhelmed, I for one. I’m not saying that we can accomplish all of them but hopefully we can get to some of them.

Kudos to Carl Grimm and his Winnebago endeavor. He successfully delivered the Winnebago to Mississippi and it was much appreciated by the recipients. Well done Carl.

The Leadership Council will meet this month on October 2nd. For those who aren’t familiar with the Leadership Council it is made up of the Chairs of the Committees and meets quarterly to touch base with the other chairs. The Council is facilitated by Betsy Turner as Vice President. Jim and I will also be at the Leadership Council meeting this month.

On October 15th the Social Events Committee has planned a Welcome Back Potluck dinner at the Fellowship. Mark the date on you calendars and look for more information from the Social Events Committee.

Remember also that if you use the facility make sure that you leave it in as good or better condition then you found it. We have tenants that pay rent and it is not fair to them to have to clean up after us. This includes putting all dishes away after they are cleaned, all furniture returned to the proper place and making sure that the garbage is taken out, doors are locked and lights are off. Thank you for your cooperation in this.

Special thanks to all those that worked through the summer on the many different tasks that go unnoticed. Even though we just came back many of you were there all summer and we appreciate your dedication.

Thanks again for all you do to make this place a special place for all of us.

Be safe,
David Morkal
