President’s Letter — November 2005

Fellow UU’ers,

While attending the President Roundtable at the Community Church of NY UU in Manhattan I was given a CD of “Drive Time Essays” released by the UUA. This CD contains about 20 different essays on topics pertaining to lay leadership within the UUA. You can read the PDF versions at http:// www.uua.org/programs/ layleader/drivetime.html. You can also e-mail the UUA at layleadership@uua.org to inquire about a copy of the CD or give me a call, I have about 5 copies circulating around right now. One of the essays that struck me was titled To Say “Thank You”. It reiterated how important it is to say thank you to all the people that work around the fellowship. We can sometimes take for granted the work that people do around the fellowship. I want to make an effort to recognize some of the people that are performing the tasks that you may or may not know about. I hope that I don’t miss someone while recognizing someone else. Please understand that it is not intentional and let me know if I missed something that you did, it is just that there is so much going on that I may not notice all the work that people are doing. Three people that I would like to recognize this month have just agreed to be the Chairs of three of our committees.

Marjorie Donahue has stepped up as the Chair of Social Events this year and jumped in with both feet by planning the Pot Luck dinner in October. She had very little time to figure out what to do, but with the help of her committee they were able to put together a great night. It you missed it, you missed it.

Ginny Stillman has taken on the dauntless task of chairing the Fundraising Committee this year. After several years of chairing by Sally Simon we were met with the challenge of filling this position and happily Ginny agreed to assume the responsibility of this vital position. With the help of her enthusiastic committee we hope that it can be rewarding for Ginny as well as financially “rewarding” for the fellowship.

Finally I would like to thank Francoise LeGoues for taking the helm of the Stewardship Committee. As some of you may know we have placed special attention on this committee this year to take on the task of looking at our financial health for now and the future. Early returns indicate a thought provoking and insightful committee.

A very big thanks to all of you for taking on these leadership positions within our congregation.

Throughout the weeks, months and year I will be thanking people for the work that they are doing, some quietly, some publicly. If you know of someone that should be thanked feel free to let me know. You can e-mail me at smurfdave@att.net or call me. And of course thank you to all of you for the work you do to make this Fellowship what it is. It wouldn’t be the same without you.

Be Safe
