President’s Letter — January 2006

Fellow UUer’s

Happy New Year! I hope that you all were able to take a moment and make your New Years resolutions. I hope even more that you are able to keep them. I have made a few myself. One is to make sure that I get this letter to Joanna on time each month. Another is to make sure that I recognize the people that do so much around the fellowship more.

In trying to keep my second resolution I would like to thank all those involved in the Christmas Eve service this year. It was a truly magical evening and one that I was privileged to be a part of. Thanks to Phyllis Tortora and Kathleen Williams for organizing the event, Bob Hudson and Pete Connolly for taking care of the parking, Sheri Brown and Lannie Spalding for decorations and setup and Lourdes Valls-Weissman for organizing the greeters. Thanks to all of you who helped out to make things run smoother and of course thanks to everyone who was there to help celebrate because it wouldn’t have been the same without you. I am still wondering what the number one reason is that I am like Santa, maybe it’s the hat.

Thanks also goes out to Shahan Islam for organizing the Ski trip and for setting up and running the “Ebay” site for the Fundraising Committee. I don’t know where he finds the time.

If you are starting to plan for January, keep January 14th available for the Social Events Committee’s “Game Night” at the Fellowship. Keep an ear out for additional information as it develops. It should be a terrific time.

As we look back at 2005 there were a lot of terrible events that captured our hearts and made us think about the fragility of life. But it is also important to look at the good things that happened. The responses to the Tsunami victims, the victims of Katrina and the earthquake in Pakistan says something about the human compassion that still exists even in the shadow of oppression and hatred. It is important to hang onto the hope for the future hatred. It is important to hang onto the hope for the future and to maintain our compassion for other human beings regardless of their beliefs, lifestyles or political positions. I hope for a less “eventful” 2006 and a more productive year as we create a place for everyone to come and be a part of our spiritual journey and provide a place to revitalize our spirits and souls. If you have not been back to the Fellowship for a while, come back and remember what it meant to you before and see if the feeling is still there.

Once again thank you all for what you do, The Fellowship would not be the same without you.

Be safe
