President’s Letter — April 2006

Fellow UU’ers,

Well it’s April and this is the month that we usually kick off our Pledge drive. But, since Jim has already written about the pledge drive and Joyce Federiuk has submitted an article for the pledge drive and you will be receiving a pledge letter soon, I have been asked to write about something different. So how about George Mason University in the Final Four? Actually I get to send out some special thanks to people that have been coming to the bat to help us out this past month.

Special Thanks:

To Sharon Kullberg for taking over getting the announcements ready for us each week. It has been great to be able to rely on her to collect and format the announcement sheet. So remember to e-mail your announcements at slkullberg@optonline.net. To Andy Denler for agreeing to put together the Newsletter for us each month. I wonder how many times I will be able to go to the “Andy well” and ask him to do things for us, especially the Newsletter. He does a terrific job and I appreciate his talent and cooperation, especially since he always has to wait for my letter. To Anne Pearl and her “Drama Troupe”. To all of those people that were involved in “Drama Sunday”. They put in a lot of work to bring us excerpts from “The Exonerated” last Sunday. It was a very thought provoking look at the Death Penalty and our justice system. To Anne Sumers and the membership committee for putting together the Indian Point Panel Discussion last month. It was a way to bring people into our Fellowship and a way to reach out to the community and let them know who we are and where we are. To Shahan Islam for continuing to maintain our fundraising Ebay account. We are still looking for someone to take over the Ebay responsibilities. If you have always wanted to learn about Ebaying this is your chance. Give Shahan a call, I’m sure he will be glad to hear from you. To Eric and Kate Marshall for their commitment to our youth and all the work they put into the Youth Sunday last month.

I also want to let all of you know that the Buildings and Grounds Committee will be working on the upstairs bathroom over the next month to make it more user friendly for all of us. Sandy Lewis and the committee have been making lots of plans and preparations over the past year to take another step in making our fellowship a little more comfortable. If you would like to help the B & G committee I’m sure that Sandy would welcome your contribution.

This month we will also have the Annual Photo Show at the Fellowship. This annual event is always interesting and helps us raise money as well as bring the community into our Fellowship. In May we will have our second annual Junior Art Show. I will write more about this next month, but if you have any questions about it you can ask Meghan Morkal-Williams. I’m sure she would be glad to tell you all about it.

Finally I would like to reach out to those people that we have not seen in a while. We miss you and would like to see you again. Come back soon so that we can include you in our journey and be a part or yours. I know how easy it is to stay home and how hard it is to schedule one more thing in our busy lives. But, come back and remind yourselves what a special place our Fellowship is. Make the commitment to come to the Fellowship to center yourselves and rejuvenate yourself for the week ahead. And I’m not just saying that because it is time for the Pledge Drive.

As always I want to thank all of you for what you do, this Fellowship would not be the same without you.

Be Safe,
David Morkal
