PROGRAM: Courtney Roberts: “Star of the Magi”

Sunday, December 9 at the 9 am and 11 am services Courtney Roberts will present her answer to the question, “Who were the Magi?”

In her talk Courtney Roberts, author of the book The Star of the Magi: The Mystery That Heralded the Birth of Christ will take us back to the time of the birth of Christ. Ms. Roberts presents an important body of scholarly research that answers such questions as who were the Magi, the three wise men following the star, and why did the author of the book of Matthew open his Gospel with them? Her answers provide insights into the Persians and their astrology. While offering this exploration of the Magi and their contributions to the religious culture of their time and our time, her work also challenges modern readers to take a look at the origins of western monotheism.

Courtney Roberts is a writer, teacher, and consultant whose work combines cosmology, religious studies, and history. In her Master of Arts degree from Bath University, England, she developed a specialization in the role of astrology in religion, especially Persian Zoroastrianism and western monotheism. She comes to us at the beginning of the Christmas season to provide a unique focus on the traditions of this holiday.
