Service Program: Guest Speaker Rev. Megan Kelly

We focus on the following UU principle “The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large” as Rev. Megan Kelly asks What if your candidate doesn’t win?

In this time of multi-year campaigning, voters have become very much invested in their hopes for their preferred candidate.  As the poll results tilt in favor or away from your candidate a certain anxiety is roused with each change in percentage points.  After all of this, what if your candidate loses?  And, more importantly, how do UU’s deal with disappointment in general.

The Rev. Megan Kelly is a lifelong UU who grew up in the Metro-NY district. After completing her tenure in YRUU, Megan majored in Religious Studies with a minor in Gender and Women’s Studies. After working in the “real” world for a whole year, she applied to seminary and continued her “religious education” at Harvard Divinity School. Though Megan trained as a parish minister, she found her calling in hospital chaplaincy. Her specialty is in pediatrics, oncology and end-of-life care. Currently, she is pursuing her certificate in psychoanalysis with the goal of opening a private practice. When not reading all major and minor works by and about Freud, Megan knits compulsively. Megan lives in Manhattan with her beloved cat, Na’Pali and lots of yarn.
