General Design Considerations

It is the designer’s hope that certain pages of the site which now contain static information, will evolve into portals for dynamic information. For example, the site is built in such a way that the Religious Education page can become the gateway to information ranging from lesson plans, to volunteer information, and even online discussions/forums.

This could be true for any group at the Fellowship that is interested in taking advantage of the website for posting information. The information could be announcements, links, sound files, or just about anything (hint, hint “Spirits in Harmony”.)

Accessibility

Every effort is being made in the design of the site, to make it accessible to everyone. This means taking into consideration the needs of visually, or mobility impaired users.

You will notice for example, that when you resize text on the site using your browser’s controls, you can enlarge the text quite a bit without breaking the basic design.

The source code of the site is written so that it is easily handled by “screen readers.” Visually impaired users may use a screen reader to speak the contents of the page out loud.

Technical

Software

This site makes use of the following open source software:

  • WordPress web publishing application
  • PunBB online forum application
  • SQLite database (supporting PunBB)
  • MySQL relational database system

The site was built on the Mac OS X operating system using Barebone’s BBEdit and MacroMates’ TextMate text editors.

RSS

This site provides a number of RSS feeds. RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication” or “Rich Site Summary” depending on whom you ask. If you know what RSS is and you want to subscribe to the fellowship feeds in your newsreader, the links are provided below. If you want to learn what RSS is you can visit this RSS info page for starters. If you really don’t care, that’s fine too! The feeds don’t contain any information that isn’t already available on the site.
