Committees enable our Fellowship to accomplish its mission both within the congregation and the larger community.
Reporting to the full Board, this committee initiates and oversees the budget process and handles the business of the Fellowship including contracts with paid staff, insurance issues, requests for outside groups using the building, and urgent matters.
This committee presents graphic arts exhibititions, musical presentations, and mixed media events including musical and theatrical performances. The committee endeavors to enrich the lives of members of the Fellowship and others in our community, and to share the considerable artistic talent of our congregation and its friends.
The Buildings and Grounds Committee is responsible for maintaining and upgrading facilities including the church building and grounds - an increasingly challenging job as the Fellowship grows and our building ages. Schedules and coordinates a Fall and Spring cleanup of church grounds. Identifies and coordinates capital projects.
The Committee on Ministry (COM) is charged with preserving, protecting and promoting the overall mission of our congregation. To fulfill this goal, the committee serves as a conduit for communications within the Fellowship by either initiating dialog, or listening, as circumstances dictate, to ensure that the goals and ideals of Unitarian -Universalism are fulfilled here at our spiritual home. Anyone with concerns about the health of our ministry and community is encouraged to contact any member of the Committee on Ministry. Because of its unique role, members of the COM are selected jointly by the minister and board and serve three year terms. Click on forum link to view more…
Develops creative ways to raise monies for Fellowship capital improvement projects. In the past year, funds have been used to upgrade the electric service, spread 67 yards of crushed stone on the lower parking lot, repaired the roof, refinished the Fellowship Hall floor and remodeled the down stairs rooms. Upcoming projects include new Belfry doors, painting of the Sanctuary and refinishing the Sanctuary floor.
Fundraising activities planned for 2010/2011 fiscal year include: UU on the Road Events throughout the year, a Holiday Arts and Crafts Fair in December, a silent and live Auction in the spring, and occasional B&B hospitality during the year. These fundraising events help us reach our financial goals and provide opportunities to better know each other within the fellowship.
The Green Sanctuary Committee is responsible for implementing a program that increases our practice of the Seventh Principal of the UUA in our church, our community and private lives: “Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part of.”
We will strive for broad congregational and community participation in activities and lifestyle changes that result in our treading more lightly upon this planet, specifically in the areas of energy usage and conservation, use of raw materials, pollution, environmental injustices, the 3R’s of Reuse, Repair and Recycle, and in our spending and investing. In support of this we will assist in integrating an environmental focus into our religious education for all ages and into worship practices that honor our interconnectedness and Earth centered wisdom.
The Membership Committee reaches out to the community with Open
Houses and publicity about Unitarian events, greets and follows up
with visitors, organizes meetings and lunches to educate potential members about Unitarian Universalism, organizes and participates in services on the New Member Sundays, helps new members integrate into the congregation, and supports established members. The Membership Committee produces the directory each year.
The Religious Education Committee facilitates a nurturing and challenging environment so our children and teens can learn about the principles and beliefs that are the foundation of Unitarian Universalism. The committee offers continuing adult religious education based on the UUA’s curricula.
The purpose of the Sharing and Caring committee is to stay connected and comfort members and friends of the Fellowship who are ill at home or hospitalized, as well as to recognize special milestones.
The Social Action Committee strives to provide support and assistance for people in need, either by education, direct action or by influencing government policy. This year’s projects include the Lunchtime Meals Program, Adopt-a-Highway, holiday gift giving, films and discussions and second collections.
The Social Events Committee organizes events so that members can get to know each other socially outside of the Sunday service experience. In the past, Social Events hosted a boat ride, bingo night, square dance, picnic and other fun events. This year it is inaugurating “Sunday Dinners Out.” Participants will dine at interesting, reasonably-priced ethnic restaurants.
The Stewardship Committee develops long-term plans for financial stability. By utilizing current resources wisely, our Fellowship will ensure our future stability and strength. The committee recommends pledge goals and helps facilitate the annual pledge drive. Stewardship encourages members to contribute their time, talents and financial resources generously.
The Sunday Services Committee is responsible for ensuring set-up and support of the Sunday Service at the Fellowship. Duties include: arranging for greeters, maintaining a flower donation schedule, and providing for music on Sunday mornings. Committee is currently inactive.
The Worship Service Committee is primarily responsible for organizing Sunday services on those Sundays when our minister is not scheduled and serves as liaison with sub-committees responsible for such special services as Christmas Eve and the summer lay-led services. Worship Service Sundays range from arts events to speakers on timely ethical issues.
