Our Welcoming Congregation

In 2003, following an intensive workshop series, movies, discussions, and a congregational vote, the Fellowship was officially certified as a Welcoming Congregation by the UUA. We proudly display our certification plaque and a related poem in the sanctuary.

A Welcoming Congregation is inclusive and expressive of the concerns of bisexual, gay, lesbian and/or transgender persons in worship, in programs, and in social occasions, welcoming not only their presence but also the unique gifts and particularities of their lives.

  • We seek to make our vocabulary of worship inclusive in language and content;
  • We seek a better understanding of the experience of non-heterosexual persons an reflect this in our programs and religious education;
  • We expand our efforts to celebrate rites of passage and unions;
  • We engage in more outreach to the gay and lesbian communities and engage in dialogues to nurture deeper trust and sharing; and
  • We seek to become an advocate for non-heterosexual people, attend to legislative developments, work to promote justice, freedom and equality and speak out when rights and dignity are at stake.
